Behavior-Based Safety Still a Viable Strategy

Introduction An article in the December 2002 issue of Safety & Health, asserted that behavior-based safety has run its course and is in decline. A construction worker and trades unionist for many years, I witnessed too many accidents resulting from unsafe behavior. Since then I have spent many years researching and implementing behavioral safety in 12 industries on four continents. I was a Professor of Safety Education at Indiana University, Bloomington who taught behavioral safety at degree level to aspiring safety professionals.
